The Good News Jail & Prison Ministry

A non-profit organization committed to preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to prisoners in jails and prisons across the United States and internationally including Chaplains in Africa, India, Latvia, and Estonia.

Founded in 1961 by Dr. William L. Simmer, it is an organization that places godly, qualified, highly-trained, degreed, professional Chaplains in a jail or prison to meet the spiritual needs of prisoners. In addition, Good News Chaplains reach out to meet the spiritual needs of the correctional staff in the facilities in which they serve.

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry exists for the purpose recruiting, equipping, encouraging and supporting Chaplains for ministry in jails and prisons nationally and internationally, with the intent that God will enable us to reach as many inmates as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and promote the spiritual growth of those inmates who indicate faith in Christ.

We accept no local, state, or federal funds and are supported by churches and individuals interested in jail and prison ministry. The Chaplains' ministry is a hands-on pastoral ministry; the inmates are their congregation - the jail or prison, their pulpit.

For more information, contact Janice Carey-Johnson or check out the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry web site at: http://www.goodnewsjail.org.

The Food Bank

The Galilee Food Bank was organized in April 1984. With the help of the Lord and some committed members, this ministry has been a great success and has helped many people in need.

Eligibility is based on the income of the entire household and must meet certain criteria for that household size.

We distribute at least 150 boxes of food each year and boxes usually go out every two or three months. Special dinners go out for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We enjoy this ministry and ask for your prayers that God will continue to use us and help us to do more.

If you or someone you know is eligible to receive food from our Food Bank, please click here to download the form.
(Please note that the form is in PDF format. If you do not already have Acrobat Reader® installed on your computer, you can download it from Adobe's web site by clicking on the graphic below.)

Youth Ministry

Purpose: To reach the youth of Galilee and the community by encouraging participation in the multitude of activities offered. Through their participation, the youth become examples to their peers and will be able to bring others to know Jesus Christ as their own personal Savior.

Youth Ministry Activities Include:

  • Youth Bible Study - Offered every Monday as a part of Family Bible Study. Youth gain an understanding of the Bible through reading and discussion. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and classes start at 7:30 p.m. and last for approximately one hour.

  • Kindred Vessels - A mime ministry that allows youth to interpret and express gospel lyrics through unspoken word, body language and gestures.

  • Children's Church - Youth are able to worship and study the Bible in classroom settings while their parents are in the regular morning worship service. The information is broken down and explained to them according to their age level and then re-enforced through fun activities such as games, crafts and videos.

  • Youth Retreats - Youth fellowship with other young Christians in an atmosphere that encourages spiritual growth.

  • Young People's Union - A choir that gives youth an opportunity to magnify God through song.

If you are interested in learning more about the Galilee Youth Ministry, please contact Reverend Dale Bradshaw, Youth Pastor or Sharon George, Youth Director.
